Cinder by Marissa Meyer

Hey Guys,

I'm back. I feel like after being gone for so long it's quite hard to back into the swing of things but I'll give it a shot.
So, it is half term here in the U.K so I'm taking advantage of the free time to get some reading done, today I'll be reviewing Cinder by Marissa Meyer. I've literally had this book on my shelf for a year, exactly a year. But, I finally have the others in the series so I can read them all back to back which so far I'm really enjoying. Anyway, enough small talk, let's get down to the review.

This book was so gripping from the very start, it always had me on the edge of my seat and I enjoyed it immensely. I'm already in love with all the characters and have become way to attached to them. I really like the dystopian world that this is set in because it is so far in the future it feels more like a fantasy book. And, in general I think the whole premise is very clever and was pulled off exceptionally.

So it is basically a fairy tail retelling of Cinderella but set way in the future where there a people with cybernetic parts. Our main character, Cinder, had cybernetic parts and is looked down because of it, and other than that it follows the main plot of Cinderella, if a bit loosely.

Ok so, this is were I leave all the people who haven't read this yet, if you have feel free to roam ahead into the spoiler section.
Also, don't forget to look out for the AIP end of month review, it should be going up soon. To be a bit cheeky 'll tell you that next month's book is Beautiful Music for Ugly Children by Kristin Cronn-Mills.
Don't forget to check out my social media, they're all linked up in the side bar -->
Like I said for all the spoileries prepare to delve into detail down below.

Welcome to my future of spoilers...

Let's begin with the beginning. At first when in started of in a mechanic store I was unsure of how I felt because I'm not a massively mechanical person, so I was unsure of how things would pan out, but because it is all so futuristic I don't think it really mattered in the end.

I absolutely was not expecting the relationship between Peony and Cinder to be as it was, because this is a fairytale retelling I was expecting to be able to make clear connections with the fairytale and the book. Even though there were quite a few blunt connections, it actually took me a while to piece together everything.

Ok I know this is kind of the end, but presenting my sixth sense of prediction again, I don't quite remember why but I knew that Cinder was Princess Selene. I don't know if it was obvious to any of you, but to me it seemed quite obvious.

What I would like to see more of is a good description of New Beijing, right now I'm imagining a sort of cross between New York and Tokyo like if you mixed these two images together.
A bit like times square.

With the whole plague research, and the plague in general. I couldn't help but feel like in convenient yet inconvenient. We only saw it effect the people who would be hard hitting or who it was convenient to see at that time. Even from the beginning when that woman, Sacha Chan or something, caught it seemed quite well placed instead of random. I was really sad when Peony died though.

Finally we come to the end. I was a bit disappointed in the whole ending myself. It may just have been because I was expecting the Princess Selene bombshell so the Lunar part wasn't fazing. I am super curious to learn more about Queen Levana and Luna in general, like when did we move to the damn moon and how that affected us to make them blood thirsty and have control over bio-energetics. I felt so sorry for Cinder throughout the whole end because, not only did she look pathetic but she also sounded it in her POV. I was expecting the ball scene to go down a bit more like the ball in Throne of Glass in the first book when Celaena walks down the stairs, but it was the opposite.
I liked a lot how it was Cinder foot that was left on the stairs instead of shoe. I think it was a nice tie in to the original story. And now Cinder has to escape.

Ok there we go I hope you enjoyed that. I know my last few posts have been reviews but my upcoming main post ideas are taking a while to plan.
I would love for you to post your feelings and thoughts on the book down in the comments, I would appreciate it, and love to read them. See you soon xx
