The Hidden Oracle by Rick Riordan

Hey Guys,

I’m ready to get back into posting, it’s almost summer time which means six weeks of posting, I hope. Anyway, I was creating a new page up top along my tab bar, when I realized how badly my reviews have become. I mean with amounts and frequency, I'm quite happy with how my reviews read. But, I was creating this tab, and I realized how much I've missed regular reviews and getting to express my feelings for books where real people can read it.
The point of that essay was to say; I'll be reviewing a lot more soon, hopefully, because I miss doing it.

I'll start the actual review now...

So, I picked this up because I was in the mood for something a bit more fun and light hearted, but still fantasy. So, what else did I pick up? A Percy Jackson.
Overall I thought this book was brilliant, I really liked reading from Apollo’s POV, and it was genuinely hilarious. The fact that all the chapter names were Haikus was just the icing on the pretty much perfect cake. I liked seeing Apollo's humility and his thoughts towards that. I loved meeting some characters as well as meeting some new ones.

The book mainly centre's around the god Apollo, who has been sent down to earth by Zeus. That's all I can really say, as I would think you should read the other Percy Jackson books first. I'm sorry if you just wanted to read this one, but it throws you into the story and expects you to know the world and characters. Plus it references the other books regularly.

I would highly recommend you pick up any Rick Riordan book (especially Percy Jackson). I would also like to mention that you might be getting the AIP end of month review a bit late, because all three of us haven't read the book yet. Sorry, I did start it though!
I have mentioned this before, but in July I'm going YALC with Maud and Emile from An Infinite Bookshelf. I'm so excited to go and I hope some of you are going, comment below if you are.
Let's get into the spoilers...

Welcome to my camp of spoilers...

So let's begin with the beginning. Meg McCaffrey, the little, I don't know what. I don't trust her but I think she is a good character in a bad situation. I enjoyed her energy throughout the book and Apollo's devotion to her.

This is going to sound weird, but I enjoyed exploring the woods more in this book. In all other Percy books we don't go into the woods much. But, we did some exploring and we got to find out about a bunch of new stuff. I liked the scenes with the Myremerkes? (That’s totally the wrong word), the giant ants, this is where we fully got to see Apollo's integrity.
I couldn't get over the Geyser spirits, their wood tour was hilarious. That is the reason I love Rick's books as they just throw in little bits of random humour during scenes containing a huge amount of duress.

I enjoyed learning more about the different Oracles. The grove of Dodona really interested me, because the rest of the oracles are encased in a current human. We obviously met up with Rachel Dare again; it was a shame to see her in such low spirits, as she was a really bubbly character last series.

I really loved the scene at the end with the giant Nero statue. I liked to see all of the campers rally together like old times. I think Apollo's nagging, sarcastic arrow was the most unhelpful yet hilarious thing. I enjoyed the fact that Percy was in that final scene, and then we have Leo.

When Leo returned home, that was just a momentous scene. I loved seeing Festus again and Calypso. What I find awkward is all the 'main' characters: Leo, Apollo and Percy, have all date her. I like Leo and Calypso together and I'm excited to see them in further books.
By far the best thing was Leo mocking the crappy ending to Blood of Olympus. He said something like 'we defeated Gaia in like 15 seconds' I feel like that's just Rick satisfying all the angry Fan girls.

My only complaint would be about the lack of Percy Jackson. He is my favourite ever Rick Riordan character and I would have personally liked to read more with him because I miss him.

I hope you enjoyed that, and hopefully it will be the first of many new posts. I would love to know your thoughts on the book, so feel free to comment below, this is a no judgement place. See you soon xx
